Complete Guide: All You Need To Know About Travel Insurance

What is travel insurance?

As the name suggests, travel insurance is the insurance that covers the cost and reduces risk associated with unexpected incidents during domestic or international travel. travel insurance can help you out in many circumstances, like medical expenses, loss of traveling equipment, damage to rental properties, theft, legal expenses, trip cancellation etc.it’s not necessary that you’ll nee travel insurance at any point in time. But when you consider the high cost of travel and the potentially low cost of insurance, travel insurance is often a worthwhile investment.  The top three reasons you should do this are: peace of mind, protection against the unexpected and concern over losing the financial investment in a trip

There are four types of coverage included in travel insurance:

  1. Trip cancellation and trip interruption insurance: This reimburses you non-refundable travel costs if your trip is cancelled or seriously delayed due to a natural disaster, illness, or the carrier goes out of business. The independent and carrier-provided insurance policies offer protection up to the amount you purchased, since this is the main reason people buy travel insurance in the first place.
  2. Baggage and personal items coverage: If someone steals something from your bag or, your luggage is lost or delayed, travel insurance will pay you for your trouble.Missing and damaged bags happen a lot more often than you might think!
  3. Emergency medical insurance:Every year the cost of hospital treatment in foreign countries is rising exponentially, which means it’s becoming more and more important to get medical insurance cover for when you travel, as you may not be able to pay for your treatment if something should go wrong. This is the second most popular reason people get travel insurance. Just as you wouldn't go without medical insurance in everyday life, when you're traveling abroad it' crucial to stay covered in case of accidents.
  4. Accidental death or dismemberment insurance:In case of political instability in the country you're travelling to, a good travel insurance will make sure you're delivered home safely and in the worst case scenario, that your body makes it back home to your family without any hassle. If you or a loved one dies on the trip or suffers a life-impairing accident (e.g., losing eyesight), this insurance feature accounts for it.

Travel insurance is worth it when you're traveling abroad and your health insurance doesn't cover emergencies outside of your country or when a large part of your trip is non-refundable. For everything else, consider how much of a financial burden it would be if you deal with any unfortunate situation.

Finally, remember that you have to get insurance before your trip starts; it won't protect you if you get the insurance after an accident happens or your trip is cancelled.
